Today, our work begins and ends on a screen. Our tools correct our mistakes the moment we make them, allowing us to achieve results that are sufficient without significant effort. This has only been exacerbated by the COVID pandemic and the subsequent push from physical to digital. But expansive exploration is a vital part of design, and by surrendering to a constricted process we are resigning to work that is inherently limited. Designers must seek balance between structure and spontaneity. By embracing an imperfect process, we challenge aesthetic ideals, expand our creativity, and celebrate the beauty in mistakes.
